Dr. Jacobs' resumé;

Handouts on Group Counseling, Impact Therapy,  and other conferences

Impact Therapy, founded by Ed Jacobs, Ph.D. is a multi-sensory approach to counseling which recognizes that change or impact comes from not only verbal, but also visual and kinesthetic exchanges.   Impact Therapy is an active, brief form of counseling that is very helpful for psychologists, school counselors, mental health counselors, social workers, and other helping professionals.

 In his book, Impact Therapy, Dr. Jacobs explains this unique approach to counseling. Much is drawn from the theories of Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT), Transactional Analysis (TA), Gestalt, Adlerian, Reality Therapy, and the creative counseling techniques that are discussed in Creative Counseling Techniques: An Illustrated Guide.

 Impact Therapy serves as a solid bridge between theories and techniques and provides a clear way to understand the process of a therapy session. The impact therapist is always trying to get to the core of the problem by cutting off unnecessary details, irrelevant stories, and unfocused discussions. The impact therapist sees the goal of any therapy session as creating change or setting in motion the process for change. A more in-depth description of Impact Therapy can be found in
What is Impact Therapy.

School Bulletin Board and impact therapy drawings made during sessions can be seen seen at the bottom of  the "What is Impact Therapy" page.
