Video Clips

On this site are three different video clips showing Ed Jacobs leading a group and working with two young children.  The purpose of the brief clips is to give you an idea of how active an Impact therapist may be in a session.  In order to understand the context of the video clip, please read introduction before viewing the video.

Group Counseling with Adolescents

This is a personal growth group for adolescents.  The clip is from the middle of the second session.  I demonstrate my active approach to group leading, holding the focus on one member and also getting the other members involved.  I have a series of two videos with these teenagers and the set can be purchased.  In the videos I demonstrate many of the ideas that I present in my group book and in my group workshops. I also have two videos of me working with women in a half-way house for alcohol recovery.  If you are interested in purchasing any of these, please contact me.

Individual Counseling with a Nine Year Old Boy

This is a clip showing my work with a 9 year old boy who is afraid of the baseball.  What you see is the opening couple of minutes where I show going to the white board.  My strong belief is that counseling should be interesting and multi-sensory, and this clip shows a counselor being active, on his feet, drawing on the board.  This tape can be purchased.  In it I show the use of REBT and TA with a client and also show a very active and interactive first session.

Individual Counseling with Six Year Old

This clip shows me working with a six year old who is the son of a very good friend of mine.  I present this to show how young kids can understand the basic principles of Transactional Analysis.  In this clip I show the use of the small chair, which is a very powerful prop that I use with many of my clients. It is apparent that Wilson is able to understand the difference in the large, "Thinking Chair" and the small chair.  Also in this clip, I show the active nature of impact therapy when I stand in the chair.  The reason for presenting this clip is try to show what I mean by being active and multi-sensory in a counseling session.  I hope to upgrade these videos as I get other clients who give me permission to put them on the web site.

Closing note:  I hope these clips give you a glimpse of what I am trying to convey in my books and workshops about making counseling more active and more interesting.  All these videos happen to be with children.  The reason for this is I had permission to use the sessions on the web site.  I do want to point out that most of my work is actually with adults.  However, many former students and workshop participants work in schools and find Impact Therapy to be extremely helpful.
